From 17 to 19 October 2023, representatives of the new Council of the UK Jiangsu Business Association travelled from London to Nanjing under the leadership of President Zhang Hai and Chair Ren Guangfeng. The delegation held discussions with relevant authorities on trade and economic cooperation, project investment, the establishment of overseas liaison points, talent attraction and people-to-people and cultural exchange.

Senior officials from relevant provincial and municipal authorities, including Xuanwu District and Jianye District in Nanjing, warmly received the delegation. They introduced regional development trends, industrial opportunities, the investment and entrepreneurial environment and relevant policies, and welcomed delegates to return to Jiangsu often, build more connections, conduct further visits, bring together more domestic and international resources, strengthen cooperation and support Jiangsu’s high-quality development.

In Xuanwu District, Nanjing, the delegation visited the Jiangsu Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Research Institute and the Institute for Medical-Engineering Interdisciplinary Innovation. They learned about the modernisation, scaling and internationalisation of China’s traditional Chinese medicine industry, and heard introductions to the medical-engineering institute’s development concept, laboratory construction, research projects, and cooperation and sharing of innovation resources, followed by a close-up tour of its facilities.
The delegation then visited the Galaxy WORLD Industrial Park in Hongshan New City · Xuanwu New Centre. At the Hongshan New City Planning Exhibition Hall, representatives heard a detailed presentation from Hongshan Subdistrict officials on the overall planning of the new city and the operation and investment promotion of its business facilities.
At Xicheng Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd., the delegation learned about the company’s operating model and business activities.
At China Tower’s Jiangsu branch, the delegation received an introduction to the company and its work in digital innovation.
Jianye District, Nanjing, gave the delegation a detailed introduction to the development plan for Hexi New City and relevant investment-promotion policies.

The visit produced significant results, deepening the delegation’s understanding of Jiangsu’s current economic and social development and the opportunities available, while establishing effective channels with the relevant authorities and laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.

After returning to the UK, the delegation would further integrate resources to promote Jiangsu, encourage more companies to visit and invest in the province, attract more talent to establish themselves in Jiangsu, and broaden and deepen the frequency and scope of exchanges and cooperation between the UK and Jiangsu in business, technology, culture and other fields.
