Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPPCC organised a study visit to Shaanxi for a group of members from Hong Kong and Macao and specially invited representatives. Zhang Lefu, Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, took part in the visit. Zhang Hai, President of the UK Jiangsu Business Association, was invited to participate.

Yan’an is regarded as a sacred place of the Chinese revolution and a cradle of New China, bearing witness to the Chinese Communist Party’s journey from weakness to strength and its path to victory. At the Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Hall and the former revolutionary sites at Yangjialing and Zaoyuan, members of the delegation reflected on the arduous history of the CPC and said that, on the new journey ahead, they should work to make new contributions to socialist modernisation.

At Liangjiahe Village in Yanchuan County, the delegation learned first-hand about the seven years Xi Jinping spent there as an educated youth, working alongside local people to overcome difficulties, and gained a deeper understanding of the Yan’an Spirit.

At the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, the Shaanxi Archaeological Museum and the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, the delegation saw the achievements Shaanxi has made in preserving, protecting and promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture, presenting the defining symbols and cultural essence of Chinese civilisation to the world, and advancing cultural innovation and creativity. The visits strengthened participants’ confidence in Chinese history and culture.

The delegation also visited Xi’an International Trade & Logistics Park, Xi’an International Convention Centre, Fast Auto Drive Co., Ltd., the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and the National Luochuan Apple Science and Technology Innovation Centre. These visits provided a direct view of Shaanxi’s achievements in implementing the national Western Development strategy and promoting high-quality economic and social development, particularly in scientific and technological innovation, the Belt and Road Initiative, poverty alleviation and rural revitalisation. The delegation also visited Jiangsu Middle School in Yan’an New District and heard an introduction from the Jiangsu working team in Shaanxi on cooperation between Jiangsu and Shaanxi.

During the programme, participants also visited revolutionary sites in Yan’an and attended a discussion on investment promotion for key industries in the city. They said that what they had seen and learned during the visit had deepened their affection for China and their confidence in the country’s development. Looking ahead, they would tell China’s story with greater confidence, participate more deeply in national development, make active use of their role as bridges and links, and contribute their knowledge and efforts to national rejuvenation.

“I am very excited to have been able to visit this place I have long wished to see,” President Zhang Hai said. He added that the UK Jiangsu Business Association would carry forward the Yan’an Spirit and the spirit of overseas Chinese communities, bring together Chinese communities across the UK, and make a greater contribution to building a new development pattern and advancing high-quality development.
